Cannes 2023 Day 1: Johnny Depp opens the festival with 'Jeanne du Barry'

The Cannes Film Festival commenced on May 16 with the premiere of Johnny Depp's comeback film 'Jeanne du Barry', a Louis XV period drama. Depp was greeted with loud cheers as he walked the red carpet. Depp arrived at precisely 7 pm and posed for pictures with excited fans for more than five minutes.

Stepping into the theatre, Depp and the cast received a warm welcome. The audience greeted them with a standing ovation.

Actor Michael Douglas, Honorary of Palme d’Or of the 76th edition, arrived for the screening with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, and daughter Carys.

Brie Larson, Esha Gupta, and Elle Fanning were among the others who graced the red carpet.

The Cannes Film Festival will run until May 27. It includes a slew of hot-ticket premieres, including ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’.
