Colin Farrell made a heartwarming return to Ireland on October 27 to complete the Dublin Marathon, pushing his longtime friend Emma Fogarty in a wheelchair for the final 4 kilometers (2.5 miles).

Emma, who has the rare skin condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB), often referred to as ‘butterfly skin,’ has been a source of inspiration for Farrell, who aims to raise funds for DEBRA, a charity supporting individuals affected by the condition.

Farrell expressed admiration for Emma’s bravery, stating, ‘She epitomizes courage and pure determination.’

The duo crossed the finish line just before 1 p.m. local time, with Farrell completing the marathon in 4 hours and 6 minutes. He emphasized that the effort was minor compared to the daily pain Emma endures, highlighting the honour of sharing that final stretch with her.

Emma, who recently celebrated her 40th birthday, is recognized as Ireland's oldest surviving person with EB. She was born with severe skin challenges, including having no skin on her left foot and right arm. Farrell and Emma committed to this marathon as a celebration of her milestone, aiming initially to raise €400,000 ($430,000) for DEBRA. Now, they aspire to reach a million euros and are well on their way.

Emma praised Farrell for his unwavering support, calling him ‘the most generous and loyal friend.’ She acknowledged the challenges of running a marathon but appreciated that once he committed, he kept his word.

This event was not just about running; it was a testament to friendship, determination, and raising awareness for a cause that deeply impacts many lives. Farrell’s philanthropic efforts also include the Colin Farrell Foundation, which supports families with adult children living with intellectual disabilities, inspired by his own son, James, who has Angelman Syndrome.
