Greta Gerwig’s recent release ‘Barbie’ is breaking box office records worldwide, but the movie has faced criticism from a section of people including billionaire Elon Musk.
Musk responded to a meme that compared ‘Barbie’ to Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and wrote, ‘If you take a shot every time Barbie says the word ‘Patriarchy,’ you will pass out before the movie ends.’
Earlier, Musk responded to a tweet by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who wrote that ‘Oppenheimer’ likely won’t inspire young people to pursue a career in physics. Reacting to his tweet, Musk wrote, ‘Indeed.’
‘Barbie’ delivered the biggest opening weekend of 2023 so far in the US, and the biggest opening weekend ever for a female director.
In India, ‘Barbie’ is pacing behind ‘Oppenheimer’. The movie has made over Rs 23 crore in five days, while Cillian Murphy has earned Rs 63 crore. Both movies were released in theatres on July 21. Their box office clash was termed 'Barbieheimer' Friday.
Recently, singer Sona Mohapatra and television actor Juhi Parmar took to social media to complain about Barbie, but for entirely different reasons. Shahid Kapoor’s wife, Mira Rajput, was also unhappy with the film’s song-and-dance sequence.
