Celebrated filmmaker Christopher Nolan reportedly earned $72 million (Rs 595 cr) for the monumental success of his last film, 'Oppenheimer'. According to a Forbes report, Nolan received a gross total of $85 million for the film, but after deducting his agents and lawyers’ fees, the figure would come to around $72 million. 'Oppenheimer', despite facing a clash with Greta Geriwg's 'Barbie' at the ticket window, made $957 million (approximately Rs 8000 crore) at the global box office.
Christopher Nolan's cinematic masterpiece, starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Florence Pugh among others, has garnered a global cult following, establishing a larger-than-life status. Now, the Forbes report has revealed that Nolan chose box office earnings over an upfront fee to safeguard the film's budget. Universal agreed to give the filmmaker “15 per cent of first-dollar gross” on 'Oppenheimer', meaning the director got a share of every penny that the movie earned before the studio recovered its expenses.
The report added, “From the box office haul, home video sales, and licensing the movie's first streaming window alone, Nolan will make an estimated $72 million pre-tax, after paying fees to his agent and lawyer ($85 million gross). The total will continue to rise as the movie gets re-sold to streamers and is licensed for years to come.”
With an incredible 13 nominations, Oppenheimer is poised to create cinematic history at the Oscars 2024. The movie is aiming for a night full of victories after receiving nominations in esteemed categories including Best Director and Best Actor.
