Director James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot has become a major topic of discussion as it marks the inaugural film in the new DC Universe. Despite its release being a year away, the film starring David Corenswet has already sparked excitement. Recently, leaked photos from the sets gave a glimpse of the unofficial first look of Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor.
Gunn had shared an official image from the set in May, giving the audience the initial sneak-peek at Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman.
Naturally, the attempts to conceal the costumed actors during daylight location shoots were only partially successful, despite efforts involving black hoods and umbrellas. Addressing fan questions about the leaked Superman set photos circulating online, Gunn responded, 'Fully expected.'
When asked about potential spoilers in the set images, Gunn reassured fans, stating, 'Not even a little. I’d never shoot a big spoiler outside in the middle of the city.' The costume itself appears notably vibrant and colourful compared to Zack Snyder’s previous rendition of the Kryptonian, drawing inspiration from various Superman comic book, including the B-52 lineup and the 1996 graphic novel 'Superman: Kingdom Come.'
The leaked Superman set images strongly suggest a catastrophic event in Metropolis, indicated by extensive damage that points to an attack on the city. According to Screen Rant, Gunn has hinted that Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor will be the film’s primary antagonist, although the actor hasn’t been spotted on the Superman set, leaving open the possibility of mayhem.
Production set photos have also revealed extras portraying firefighters and soldiers, suggesting that the military is mobilised to defend Metropolis against the unidentified threat.
As per an official description released when the project was titled Superman: Legacy, the upcoming reboot focuses on Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas, rather than re-telling his original story. 'He embodies truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that often sees kindness as outdated.'
James Gunn’s Superman reboot promises to bring a fresh perspective, setting the stage for an anticipated entry into the DC cinematic universe.
