Talk show host Jerry Springer, a former mayor of Cincinnati, has died at 79. In a statement, Springer's family said that he died peacefully at his home in Chicago on Thursday.
He became a worldwide sensation with his show 'The Jerry Springer Show' which debuted in 1991 and ran for 27 years.
He was one of the most notable and controversial individuals in television history.
Prior to television, he was a politician who filed a failed campaign for U.S. Congress in 1970, was elected to the Cincinnati City Council in 1971, and was elected mayor in 1977. He only served one term.
Jerry's most recent TV performance was on 'The Masked Singer's ' last season, where he played 'The Beetle,' singing a Frank Sinatra song.
