American rapper and singer Kanye West has been in the news after facing a ban from Twitter and Instagram. He was removed from social networking sites for allegedly posting anti-Semitic content, showing interest in racist conspiracy theories, and wearing a provocative ‘White Lives Matter’ T-shirt at Paris fashion week.
Now, the rapper has agreed to purchase the social-media platform Parler. The announcement was made by the company on Monday.
Primarily used by US conservatives, Parler is a site that describes itself as a ‘free speech,’ alternative to mainstream platforms.
According to the owner of Parlement Technologies, the acquisition should be completed in the fourth quarter.
'In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,' the singer said in a statement released by the platform.
In September, Parler announced it was restructuring to focus on users who risk being ousted from the internet.
Parler was founded in 2018, it reportedly has 15 million registered users.
