The investigation into Matthew Perry's tragic death has officially concluded. The Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner have both closed the case, as per a statement on their website.
Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 at his Los Angeles residence. The autopsy report cited the acute effects of ketamine as the primary cause of death, with drowning, coronary artery disease, and the presence of buprenorphine, a medication for opioid use disorder, as contributing factors. Despite recent ketamine infusion therapy, the ketamine found in his system at the time of death was not attributed to the therapy due to its short half-life.
Matthew Perry gained immense fame for his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the beloved 90s sitcom ‘Friends.’ He consistently expressed gratitude for the role that catapulted him and his co-stars Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer to global recognition.
Prior to his passing, Perry openly discussed his struggle with addiction in his 2022 memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.’ In the book, he chronicled his journey to sobriety and took pride in maintaining his sobriety, stating, ‘I wanted to share my story when I was in a secure place, away from the darkness.’
