Comedian-television host Jimmy Kimmel has announced that he will be hosting the 95th Academy Awards. He shared a clip in which he takes Tom Cruise's spot in a ‘Top Gun: Maverick’-themed Oscars trailer. The video also features Jon Hamm and Charless Parnell recreating their roles from the film. They inform Jimmy that he was not the first choice, or the second or the 11th to host the Oscars and he replies, 'I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting to be asked to host again.'
The video also has a glimpse of last year’s most controversial moment – Actor Will Smith slapping presenter Chris Rock at the ceremony that was co-hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which is widely considered one of the best films of 2022 by critics and audiences, is nominated at the Oscars in six categories- Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Song, and Best Visual Effects. It faces competition from another critically and commercially successful blockbuster, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which earned four Oscar nominations and beat out the film as the highest-grossing movie of the year.
This is not the first time that Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars. He hosted the Academy Awards two times before. The 2023 Oscars ceremony airs live on Sunday, March 12, on ABC.
