Jimmy Kimmel, who will be hosting the Oscars this year, unveiled the colour of the red carpet that the Hollywood stars will walk on at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday. The colour of the new carpet? Champagne.
He expressed admiration for the carpet during its unveiling outside the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Kimmel also joked that the change from the traditional red carpet was prompted by last year’s controversy where Will Smith went onstage to slap Chris Rock for mocking his wife, Jada Smith.
‘I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet over a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed,’ Kimmel said.
The decision to change the colour came from creative consultants Lisa Love, a longtime Vogue contributor, and Raúl Àvila, the creative director for the glamourous Met Gala in New York.
The organisers opted for the champagne-hued carpet this time as they wanted a ‘soothing’ and light colour that did not clash with the orange tent which will be placed to protect attendees from potential weather changes.
The Oscars 2023 will be streamed in India on Disney Plus Hotstar from 5.30am.
