The National Institute of Health states that alopecia occurs when the immune system targets and results in hair follicle damage, leading to hair loss. Primarily impacting the head and face, it can extend to any body part. The National Alopecia Areata Foundation notes the disorder's unknown cause and its prevalence among 6.7 million individuals in the United States.
The National Institute of Health asserts that alopecia has no cure, but red light therapy may aid in stimulating hair growth.
