After Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s debate, Taylor Swift came out to support the Democrat. Taylor’s endorsement came on Instagram soon after the debate ended. Signing off as ‘Childless Cat Lady’, she took a dig at Trump’s deputy JD Vance.
The Instagram post featured a photo of her posing with a cat in her arms.
‘She fights for the rights & causes I believe need a warrior to champion them’: she wrote. ‘We can accomplish so much more if we are led by calm and not chaos’: Swift said.
The 34-year-old singer is a big political influencer, impacting voter turnout. Her political endorsements are keenly watched by over 550 million followers on social media.
In Sept 2023, Swift urged her followers to register to vote through Vote.org. This resulted in over 35,000 new registrations in a single day, highest since 2020.
After Swift endorsed Harris, she faced backlash from Trump supporters. Taking a dig, Elon Musk posted, ‘I will give you a child & guard your cats with my life’
For most of her 2-decade old career, Taylor Swift remained silent on political matters. But in 2020 she told reporters that she ‘needs to be on the right side of history’.
In 2020, she endorsed Biden & Harris for their White House run.
Her endorsement of Biden annoyed Trump: ‘Why would she endorse this dope?’
She flayed Trump: ‘tweet that could help take down a president’.
Taylor Swift’s disdain for Donald Trump contrasts with his fascination with her.
Trump, who admires her success, was surprised by her liberal stance.
In her post, Swift also addressed AI-generated images shared by Donald Trump. For the unversed, in August, Trump had falsely depicted Swift and her fans endorsing his campaign on social media.
‘It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter,’ Swift wrote.
