It’s a night of glitz and glamour and you may agree with their decisions or loathe them completely, but you just can’t ignore the Academy Awards!

When the winner of the best actor award, decks a host in front of a live audience - then you certainly cannot ignore the Oscars! With #whatjusthappened trending on twitter, we’re all still reeling at the shock value of the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock. However it’s not the only time that the Oscars just a touch awkward!

1. The Moonlight/La La Land mix-up

There’s really no coming back from this one, but who can forget the 2017 Oscars, where the presenters announced the incorrect name for best film!

2. Jennifer Lawrence falls down while getting her award

She won the Academy Award for being a wily troubled woman who finds love and salvation through dance in Silver Linings Playbook - but well, the jitters can trip us all up sometimes!

3. Jan Chapman in memoriam

Everyone wants to be remembered at the Oscars but perhaps for not this reason. The 2016 in Memoriam slideshow featured the image of producer Jan Chapman, who was very much alive!

4. Adrian Brody

Being excited about winning an Oscar is a fair sentiment - but whatever Adrien Brody did after winning Best Actor for ‘The Pianist’ probably isn’t! He devoted much of his allotted speech time to grabbing Halle Berry and planting an aggressive kiss on her lips without her agreement, and it was uncomfortable to say the least.

5. The streaker in 1974

If you thought Will Smith barging on to stage was shocking, well then, we’ve really tamed down from 1974 - where the Oscars were interrupted by a not-so-gentleman streaking on stage!
