Charlie Puth left the audience and fans emotional at the 75th Emmy Awards as the singer paid a heartfelt tribute to ‘FRIENDS’ actor Matthew Perry by performing the theme song of the show. Puth played an emotional cover of ‘I’ll be there for you’ during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment of the show in Los Angeles.
The late actor, who played one of the most beloved characters of all times on television, was remembered at the Emmys. Singer Charlie Puth and singer-songwriter duo Michael Trotter Jr and Tanya Trotter started the performance with ‘I’ll see you again’, followed by a cover of the ‘FRIENDS’ theme song as Matthew Perry’s picture appeared on the screens. Fans from across the globe shared their emotions on social media as Puth’s cover left many sobbing.
Matthew Perry passed away last year in October, at the age of 54 due to the accute effects of ketamine. The actor struggled with addiction for decades and shared his version in his memoir in 2022. Besides ‘FRIENDS’, the actor starred in several TV shows and films including ‘17 Again’, ‘The Whole Ten Yards’ and ‘Three To Tango’.
Apart from Perry, Len Goodman, Andre Braugher, Lance Reddick, Paul Reubens, Barbra Walters were remembered at the Annual Emmy awards.
