Nicole Scherzinger has long been a devoted supporter of Liam Payne.
Recently, Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who penned the music for Sunset Boulevard, revealed in an interview with Billboard on Oct. 24 that she was in contact with the late One Direction star on the day he passed away.
“I suppose something that hasn’t been said is that she mentored Liam from One Direction,” Andrew shared. “On the Wednesday when he died, she was still texting him that day.”
After receiving the heartbreaking news of Liam’s death on Oct. 16, Nicole demonstrated remarkable resilience by performing as Norma Desmond that evening. “She’d just heard that he died,” Andrew noted.
“The fact that she even did the show at all is extraordinary. She is an amazing, amazing woman and, without question, one of the finest performers I’ve ever worked with.
” He further praised her commitment, stating, “Once she’s committed to something, she is the most incredible company member and leader of any performer I know.”
Nicole’s support for One Direction extended beyond her mentorship of Liam, who tragically died from “multiple traumas” and “internal and external hemorrhage” following a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as indicated in his autopsy.

Footage from The X Factor reveals that Nicole was instrumental in suggesting the formation of the boy band that included Liam, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson—a move that would launch One Direction into global stardom.
In the resurfaced 2022 YouTube clip, Nicole is seen urging fellow judge Simon Cowell to consider the young contestants as “an imaginary boy group.” “They’re just too talented to get rid of,” she insisted.
“They’ve got the right look and charisma on stage.” Her excitement was palpable when the decision was made to group them together. “They’re like little stars,” she exclaimed. “You can’t get rid of little stars. You put them all together.”
Meanwhile, Buenos Aires police raided the Casa Sur Hotel, where former One Direction member tragically fell to his death on October 16. The Special Investigations Division seized computer hard drives during the operation. Preliminary toxicology results indicated he had cocaine in his system and was experiencing an ‘outbreak’ prior to the fall.
