Taylor Swift has yet to endorse a presidential candidate this election cycle, but former President Donald Trump is falsely claiming otherwise. On Truth Social, Trump shared AI-generated images of Swift, including one where she's depicted as Uncle Sam urging support for him and others showing fans in ‘Swifties for Trump’ T-shirts. Despite these misleading portrayals, Swift’s political stance seemingly remains clear.

In 2020, Swift endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket and is expected to support the Harris-Walz ticket for 2024. However, she won’t be attending the Democratic National Convention this week. A DNC insider mentioned that while Swift is valued, her presence might overshadow the event, drawing attention away from the Vice President’s acceptance speech.

Swift has been a significant political influencer, impacting voter turnout and engaging in key issues. In September 2023, she urged her followers to register to vote through Vote.org, resulting in over 35,000 new registrations on that day. NPR noted this surge was the highest since 2020, with 18-year-old registrations more than doubling from 2022.

Before 2018, Swift’s political engagement was minimal. That changed when she endorsed Democrat Phil Bredesen in his senatorial race against Republican Marsha Blackburn, explaining on Instagram that recent events had prompted her to speak out.

Since then, Swift has actively supported various causes, including the youth gun control group March for Our Lives and the LGBTQ+ Equality Act.

She has also criticized Trump’s presidency as an “autocracy,” identified as “obviously pro-choice,” called for the removal of Confederate statues in Tennessee, condemned the 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade, and allowed her song “Only the Young” to be used in a political ad for Democrat Eric Swalwell’s 2020 re-election campaign.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has highlighted Swift’s potential influence on the 2024 election as “profoundly powerful.” Polling indicates that Swift’s fanbase is predominantly progressive, with a strong preference for Harris over Trump.
