The day after smacking Chris Rock on the Oscars stage, actor Will Smith has issued an apology to the comedian, to the academy and to the viewers at home.

Taking to Instagram, Will posted a long note saying that his behaviour at Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.

Stating that he was 'out of line', Will said his actions are 'not indicative of the man he wants to be'.

He further added that jokes at his expense are a part of the job, but a joke about his wife Jada’s medical condition was too much for him to bear and he reacted emotionally.

Will stunned the Dolby Theatre crowd and viewers at home when he took the stage and slapped Chris after he made a joke about his wife Jada's bald look.

Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, an auto-immune disease that results in hair loss.

The actor had publicly announced that she was shaving off her head due to the illness.
