2PM’s Taecyeon to star in new Japanese BL drama ‘Soulmate’ with Hayato Isomura

2PM’s Taecyeon is all set to star in a Korean-Japanese Netflix drama titled ‘Soulmate’. The South Korean star will be seen sharing screen space with ‘Alice in Borderland’ actor Hayato Isomura. This would be Taecyeon’s first BL (Boy Love) drama. The international collaboration has raised the anticipation among fans.

The 2PM member made the announcement on his official Instagram with a picture with Japanese actor, likely a scene from their upcoming drama. Keeping it simple, the actor wrote, “Netflix Soulmate”. While the production of the series is currently underway, release date of ‘Soulmate’ is yet to be announced.  

The ‘Vincenzo’ star’s company also released an official statement confirming his role. The statement read, “OK Taecyeon is set to appear in Netflix’s Japanese series ‘SoulMate’, which is currently in the midst of production with the goal of a release sometime next year.” “OK Taecyeon will be playing the role of Korean boxer Hwang Johan,” the agency added.  

Speaking about his upcoming show, Taecyeon told a South Korean news outlet, “I’m extremely delighted to be appearing in ‘Soulmate’ becaue there were so many types of characters and genres that I hadn’t tried yet.”

More about ‘Soulmate’

The series will be helmed by Japanese director Hashmizume Shunki. It follows the story of two men, a boxer and another one who has abandoned his life in Japan, falling in love. The drama is set in Seoul, Berlin, and Tokyo. 

Netflix described the show as a live-action series and said, “Destiny works in mysterious ways, and a chance encounter may just mark the beginning of a love story.”
