Cannes 2024 has concluded but the controversy continues. A security guard at the film festival recently had a confrontation with Kelly Rowland and Dominican actress Massiel Taveras as she seemed to be rushing and not letting the artists pose at the red carpet. Netizens have now found a video where the same security guard seemed to be blocking k-pop idol and actor Yoona.
Social media is furious after some fans found out that the security guard at Cannes might have discriminated against Girls Generation’s Yoona. The South Korean star looked stunning at the prestigious film festival in a pink gown. A now-surfaced video shows the gorgeous actor trying to pose on the stairs. Immediately after, she was blocked and rushed by the female guard. This was in contrast to the treatment meted out to the other American actors who continued posing at the stairs without being interrupted.
This incident has come to light after a video of Kelly Rowland’s confrontation with the security guard surfaced on Internet. The singer spoke about the incident later and said, “The woman knows what happened. I know what happened and I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.” Hinting at the act being intentional and racist, she said, “And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground.”
After Rowland’s incident, Dominican actor Massiel Taveras also had a heated exchange at the stairs of the Cannes red carpet. The actor wore a white gown with Christ picture in the train of the gown. The actor was also stopped by the same security guard involved in Rowland and Yoona’s incident. In the videos going viral, Taveras can be seen arguing with the guard.
The three incidents involving the same security guard are being looked as an issue of racism. Netizens are baffled to see the videos of three women being discriminated. Outraged fans are demanding answers from the Cannes as they believe that the particular security guard discriminated against the women of colour and did not let them pose on stairs.
