FIFA World Cup 2022 commenced on Sunday in Qatar with a grand opening ceremony. K-pop band BTS member Jungkook, and Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman were among others who performed at the ceremony.
Jungkook performed this year’s official World Cup anthem ‘Dreamers’ with Qatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi. The song perfectly captures the excitement for the FIFA World Cup.
The South Korean K-pop star is the first-ever Asian ever to perform the official World Cup anthem.
Fans were left in awe with Jungkook’s electrifying performance. Soon after his performance, BTS ARMY took to Twitter and started trending #JungkookinQatar.
One of the BTS fans wrote, ‘Will never get tired of saying this, ever. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU JUNGKOOK! You have become the great singer and performer that you've been wanting to be. You made history LOVE YOU MY BORN SINGER! BTS star Jungook stole the show with his song 'Dreamer'. Another comment read, ‘Jungkook opened the World Cup and did it so well so proud of him he proved himself again as the world-class artist he is.’
Jungkook looked dapper in an all-back outfit at the event. His performance also gave tribute to previous anthems performed by Ricky Martin, Shakira, and Enrique Iglesias.
The event also witnessed a moving monologue from veteran actor Morgan Freeman. The actor narrated a segment titled ‘The Calling’ and he was joined by FIFA World Cup Ambassador Ghanim Al Muftah.
In the segment, Freeman said, ‘What unites us is greater than what divides us. We are one big tribe and the Earth is our tent. Together we can make the call for everyone to unite. This is a call to the whole world. Soccer brings people and nations together. There is a common thread of hope and respect. Soccer expands the world, it unites nations in their love for this precious game. What brings nations together, brings communities together. We all have a soccer history, and so does Qatar.’
