O Yeong Su, who is famously known for playing the role of Player 001 in Netflix's 'Squid Game', has been charged with sexual misconduct. He was released later without being put in detention by the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office. The 78-year-old had allegedly touched a woman inappropriately in 2017.
As reported by Variety, the victim lodged a police complaint against the actor in December 2021. The case was closed in April this year, although the authorities reopened the case at the victim's request as per the South Korean news agency AFP.
The actor has denied all the claims and allegations against him. Variety quoted the actor’s statement to JTBC in the matter, 'I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because [the person] said she wouldn't make a fuss about it but it doesn't mean that I admit the charges.'
Following the charges against him, Seoul's culture ministry has decided to stop airing a government commercial with featured O Yeong Su, as per news agency AFP.
'Squid Game' gave him immsense popularity across the globe and made him a household name. Many memes were also generated and shared across the world featuring Oh Yeong Su. His role in 'Squid Game' also garnered him a 'Golden Globe Award' in the category of The Best Supporting Actor in a series.
