Indian movies ‘RRR’ and India's Gujarati film ‘The Last Film Show’ (Chhello Show) have made it to the shortlists for Oscars 2023. SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, made to the shortlist for its song 'Naatu Naatu', while ‘The Last Film Show’ was shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category.
15 songs have been shortlisted from among 81 tunes in the best song category. Other songs include 'Nothing Is Lost' from 'Avatar: The way Of Water', 'Lift Me Up' from 'Blank Panther: Wakanda Forever', 'Hold My Hand' from 'Top Gun: Maverick' among others.
The foreign film category shortlist includes 15 movies - Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths’ along with ‘Holy Spider’ (Denmark), ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ (Germany), ‘Saint Omer’ (France), ‘Corsage’ (Austria), ‘EO’ (Poland), ‘Return to Seoul’ (Cambodia), ‘Decision to Leave’ (South Korea), ‘Close’ (Belgium) and ‘Argentina, 1985’ (Argentina).
‘Joyland’ from Pakistan is their first film to be shortlisted in the category.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced shortlists in 10 categories for the 95th Oscars, including documentary feature, international film, makeup and hairstyling, score, original song, sound, visual effects and shorts. Nominations for all categories will be announced on January 24. The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12.
