Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the team of the Oscar-winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ on Thursday. Photos from their meet were shared by the official Twitter handle of the Prime Minister in which he is seen standing with the film’s director Kartiki Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga as they hold the Oscars. Monika Shergill, Netflix India's Vice President, Content, is also seen in the photo.
Sharing the photo, Modi tweeted, ‘The cinematic brilliance and success of ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ has drawn global attention as well as acclaim. Today, I had the opportunity to meet the brilliant team associated with it. They have made India very proud.’
Guneet Monga reacted to his tweet and wrote, ‘Honourable PM @narendramodi Sir, we are truly honoured to have met you today and share with you the Oscar that India has won for ‘The Elephant Whisperers’. Grateful for your appreciation for this cherished moment for @sikhyaent.’
‘The Elephant Whisperers’ is the maiden Indian production to win in the Documentary Short category. It explores the bond between humans and an abandoned elephant calf in a Tamil Nadu sanctuary.
