Renowned designer Rohit Bal remains in critical condition, still on ventilator support

Acclaimed fashion designer Rohit Bal, who has been admitted to Gurugram's Medanta Hospital due to pre-existing medical conditions, remains critical and on ventilator support, according to hospital sources.

‘He is critical and continues to be on ventilator support,’ stated a source from the private hospital.

‘He's slightly improved but still reliant on ventilator support,’ added a close friend speaking to ANI.

In February 2010, Rohit Bal suffered a heart attack, necessitating an emergency angioplasty.

Rohit Bal, aged 62, reportedly battled alcohol addiction, seeking intermittent treatment in rehab. In November last year, his health deteriorated, requiring urgent admission to Medanta Hospital.

Bal is well-known for his designs that appeal to all genders. He launched his career in fashion designing in 1986 when he and his brother founded Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd. In 1990, he made his independent collection debut.

Rohit Bal, renowned for gender-inclusive designs, began his fashion journey in 1986 with Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd., later debuting independently in 1990.

Born into a Kashmiri Pandit family in Srinagar on May 8, 1961, Bal collaborated with Khadi Gram Udyog, operated a flagship store in Delhi, and expanded to other cities.

Besides fashion, he excelled in jewellery design, using materials like velvet and brocade, inspired by India's richness. He holds a bachelor's in History from St. Stephens College, Delhi.

He pursued a course in fashion at Delhi's National Institute of Fashion Technology.

Throughout his career, Bal earned accolades including 'Designer of the Year' at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006 and the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001. His contributions were further recognized in 2012 when he was honored as the Lakme Grand Finale Designer.
