'Shaakuntalam' movie director Gunasekhar has revealed that Samantha Ruth Prabhu had to work on her figure for the role of Shakuntala. The film hit the theatres on April 14 in five languages- Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada.
In an interview with Times of India, Gunasekhar said, ‘Sam didn’t say no on my first narration but she asked for some time as she was unwell. I have shown some of the material how the film will look like and she liked it. I asked Samantha to rework her figure because her abs or biceps would be unsuitable for the soft and tender look of Shakuntala. So to work on her look, she asked for some time but not for its content. I had no plan B actress for Shaakuntalam, from day one it was always Samantha.’
The film stars Samantha in the titular role and is based on ancient Indian poet and playwright Kalidasa’s play Shakuntala.
Samantha was last seen in sci-fi thriller ‘Yashoda.’ She will next be seen in a romantic film ‘Khushi’ while she also has Prime Video’s spy thriller ‘Citadel’ with Varun Dhawan in pipeline.
