Some good news for Raj Kundra. Supreme Court granted the businessman and husband of actor Shilpa Shetty anticipatory bail in the pornography case on Tuesday. Actors Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey are among others who were granted relief by the apex court.
For the unversed, an FIR was filed against the trio for allegedly distributing pornographic videos.
‘Having heard the counsel for the parties, we are of the view that the petitioners may be granted anticipatory bail,’ a bench of Justices K M Joseph and B V Nagarathna stated, according to news agency PTI.
Senior advocate R Basant, appearing for one of the accused, reportedly said that a chargesheet has been filed in the case and the accused are cooperating with the probe.
This decision comes weeks after Raj’s plea for pre-arrest protection was rejected by the Bombay High Court.
Raj Kundra was arrested in a pornography case in July 2021 and released on bail later in the year. Raj was booked under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 2,92 and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays) and sections of the Information Technology Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The FIR named Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey as co-accused.
