Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's Shakti band triumphed at the Grammys 2024, winning the Best Global Music Album award. Sharing the joy on Instagram, Shankar posted photos from the event along with a heartfelt thank-you message.

In the snapshots, the composer and vocalist are seen proudly posing with their trophy.

Shankar expressed his elation in the caption, stating, ‘WE DID IT. I never imagined that a band from which I learned my music and musical aesthetics would be the same band with whom I would ultimately perform and win a Grammy. This moment reaffirms that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream realized! Grateful to the Almighty for this opportunity! It's truly 'THIS MOMENT.'’

After Shankar shared the post, fans flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages. One user wrote, ‘Heartfelt congratulations to all of you. What a proud moment.’

Another commented, ‘You deserve it, sir.’

During his acceptance speech at the Grammys, Shankar expressed his gratitude, saying, ‘Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you.’

His shoutout to the nation received a resounding cheer from the crowd. Shankar also acknowledged his wife for her unwavering support, stating, ‘Last but not least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife, to whom every note of my music is dedicated.’

Besides Mahadevan and Hussain, Shakti comprises guitarist John McLaughlin, percussionist V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan. The band competed with other artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido at the ceremony. Their album 'This Moment' was released on June 30 last year.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shankar talked about his historic win and said, ‘Being at a place full of world-class international artistes and represent our country, make a mark as Indians and receive accolades made me so happy. I felt proud to represent India, musically.’
