Actor Shruti Haasan schooled a social media user who asked her to speak in a 'South Indian accent' during an 'Ask Me Anything' session on her Instagram. She expressed her displeasure, stating that the request was 'not funny'.

Shruti, who hails from a Tamil background, stated, 'Ok… So This sort of micro racism is not ok And it’s not ok when you look at us and say idli dosa sambar either. And no you don’t imitate us well so don’t try and be funny’.

She firmly advised against making fun of such matters.

This incident sheds light on Shruti's frustration with stereotypes against South Indians, both in real life and in reel life.

In a similar incident, Shah Rukh Khan faced criticism earlier when he jokingly referred to Ram Charan as 'idly vada' during a pre-wedding event. This remark caused discomfort, leading Ram Charan's makeup artist, Zeba Hassan, to express her disappointment publicly.

She took to Instagram and wrote, ‘Bhend idly vada Ram charan kahan hai tu (Saying names of snacks, Ram Charan where are you)???' I walked out after this. So disrespectful towards a star like @alwaysramcharan.’ She described the comment as disrespectful towards Ram Charan, highlighting the sensitivity surrounding such remarks in the entertainment industry.

On the professional front

Shruti Haasan was recently seen in Prashanth Neel’s film ‘Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire,’ produced by Hombale Films and starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The actor is also set to appear alongside Adivi Sesh in Shaneil Deo’s upcoming film ‘Dacoit’.

Shruti’s personal front

Shruti Haasan recently made headlines for her split with boyfriend Santanu Hazarika. The couple, who had been in a long-term relationship and lived together for the past few years, were frequently photographed together and openly expressed their love for each other. Santanu is a renowned doodle and multidisciplinary visual artist, having collaborated with celebrities like Raftaar, Divine, and Ritviz.

During an AMA session on Instagram, when Shruti was asked if she is single or committed she said, ‘I don’t enjoy answering these questions, but I am entirely single, unwilling to mingle, only working and enjoying my life.’
