Music maestro AR Rahman was honoured at the recent Vikatan Cinema awards. He attended the event along with his wife Saira Banu. During his acceptance speech, Rahman thanked her for her support. The host then invited Saira on stage to say a few words and accept the trophy alongside her husband. Before she could address the audience, AR Rahman asked her to speak in Tamil and not in Hindi.
‘Don’t talk in Hindi, speak in Tamil,’ he said. Saira responded by saying, ‘Oh my God.’ Visibly uncomfortable Saira smiled and said, ‘Sorry, I can’t speak fluently in Tamil. So, please excuse me. I am super happy and excited because his voice is my favourite. I fell in love with his voice. That’s all I can say.’
AR Rahman and Saira tied the knot in 1995.
Currently, AR Rahman is awaiting the release of the upcoming period action ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2’, directed by Mani Ratnam. He has composed music for the film. The film is all set to release on April 28.
