‘Jailer’ actor, director G Marimuthu dies of heart attack; Tamil film industry pays tribute

Director-actor G Marimuthu died due to a heart attack while dubbing for his hit TV series ‘Ethir Neechal’. The news of his death came as a shock to the industry and many are paying tribute to him on social media.

According to reports, Marimuthu was dubbing for the soap opera in a studio in Chennai on September 8 morning along with his co-star Kamlesh. He suddenly collapsed in the studio and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Vadapalani, where he was pronounced dead.

G Marimuthu’s remains will be taken to his native place Theni, where he will be cremated. He is survived by his two children and wife.

G Marimuthu worked as an assistant to lyricist Vairamuthu during his early years. He later worked with director Vasanth as an assistant.

G Marimuthu has directed films ‘Pulivaal’ and ‘Kannum Kannum’. He made his acting debut in Mysskin’s ‘Yuddham Sei’.

He has played notable roles in films like ‘Pariyerum Perumaal’, ‘Vikram’, and ‘Jailer’. He recently became popular among family audiences with the Tamil serial ‘Ethirneechal’, where he played the role of Aadhimuthu Gunasekaran, a strong-headed patriarch.
