Nag Ashwin’s magnum opus ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ seems to be matching up to the buzz. The film starring a stellar cast was released in theatres on June 27 and has entered 200 crore club in only three days at domestic box office. After witnessing a dip on the second day, film has gained the momentum back on Saturday.
On Saturday, despite the T20 World Cup frenzy, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ picked up pace and saw a growth of 15% compared to Friday. Nag Ashwin directorial added Rs 67.1 crore on the third day of its release across all languages and has minted an overall Rs 220 crore in India, according to Sacnilk.com. The film could have taken the third day collection to Rs 70 crore but the T20 World Cup final had a clear impact on the occupancy of night shows.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ made a blockbuster opening, earning more than Rs 95 crore. However, it saw a 43% dip in its nett collection on day 2 and earned only Rs 54 crore. With one more day to go, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is eyeing a Rs 300 collection in first weekend.
The mythological sci-fi drama is doing good on the international front as well. The film has minted Rs 298.5 crore in two days at the box office worldwide. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has so far broken several box office records. The film became the biggest opening of 2024 so far in India as well as the 4th biggest all-time opener.
Helmed by Nag Ashwin, the sci-fi epic takes inspiration from mythology and binds the elements of Mahabharat into a dystopian futuristic world. Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani play key roles besides several superstars in cameo appearances. The film has been released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and English. The mega budget film is backed by Vyjayanthi Movies.
