After the blockbuster opening, Nag Ashwin’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has shattered several more records at the box office. The sci-fi epic has surpassed ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Gadar 2’ as far as domestic collection is concerned. The film touched a new milestone by crossing Rs 1000 crore mark at worldwide box office within 15 days of its release.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ continues to rule the box office and has crossed Rs 1000 crore globally. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared the update on X and wrote, “#KALKI2898AD has crossed 1,000 Crs at the WW Box office.” Earlier on July 8, the makers of the film confirmed on their official handle that the film had crossed Rs 900 crore worldwide.
The mega budget mythological sci-fi drama has grossed over Rs 230 crore only in Hindi belt. The Nag Ashwin directorial had a bumper opening of Rs 95 crore and continues to run in theatres after two weeks. After enjoying a solitary run, the film now faces competition from Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’.
Kalki 2898 AD" is reportedly the most expensive film ever made in India with a budget of Rs 600 crore. The film had a global release on June 27 in five different languages, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and English.
The magnum opus features a star-studded cast comprising of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani and Prabhas in the lead. Directed by Nag Ashwin, who has previously helmed projects like ‘Mahanati’ and ‘Yevade Subramanyam’, the film has been produced by Vyjayanthi Movies.
Bachchan, 81, who essayed the role of immortal warrior Ashwathhama in the film, earlier expressed his admiration for the project in a lengthy post on his personal blog. Calling it a ‘massive spectacle’, the actor said the film is a ‘merger of myth and reality’ and a ‘learning to the film makers on the process of putting the mammoth together for a viewing audience.’
