Having said that, the filmmaker expressed his dissatisfaction with The Kerala Story's box office performance. 'I'd like to see more people see The Kerala Story.' He further added, 'I want the message to reach as many people as possible. I want at least 10% of the world's Indian population to see my film. Then and only then will I consider it a true success. Money is obviously important, but I didn't consider it when I began working on this topic. Believe me, for nine years or more, I woke up every morning frustrated that I couldn't do anything.'
