Actor Nayanthara and filmmaker Vignesh Shivan announced that they have blessed with twin boys - Uyir and Ulagam - on Sunday. Vignesh shared the first pictures of the babies on Instagram and his post was flooded with congratulatory messages. However, the couple’s announcement has landed into controversy. Several reports stated that the babies were conceived through surrogacy, however, the duo has not made any official statement yet.
Now, doubts are being raised if procedures set out by the Indian surrogacy laws were followed by the couple.
During a press conference, questions on the same were posed to Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian who has said that an inquiry will be conducted. ‘The surrogacy itself is subjected to a lot of debates. But, the law allows individuals to involve in surrogacy if they are above 21 years and below 36 years of age, with the approval of the family,’ said the minister.
Mr Subramanian said that he would request the Directorate of Medical Services to conduct a probe into the matter.
Nayanthara and Vignesh tied the knot in June this year after over seven years of courtship. Their wedding took place in Mahabalipuram, and it was attended by celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth, Karthi, Atlee, Vijay Sethupathi, and Mani Ratnam among others.
