Not ‘RRR’ or ‘The Kashmir Files’, Gujarati film ‘Chhello Show’, directed by Pan Nalin, was been named as India's official Oscars entry on Tuesday. SS Rajamouli fans are unhappy about the fact that his magnum opus, starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, failed to make the cut.
However, ‘RRR’ can still make it to the Academy Awards. The film’s US distributor, Dylan Marchetti, told Variety that he will launch a full campaign for the historical drama and will be calling on the 10,000 members of the Academy to vote for the movie in all categories.
‘RRR’ will reportedly be submitted for best picture, director (S.S. Rajamouli), original screenplay (Rajamouli and V. Vijayendra Prasad), lead actor (for both N.T. Rama Rao Jr and Ram Charan), supporting actor (Ajay Devgn), supporting actress (Alia Bhatt), original song (“Naatu Naatu”), original score (M.M. Keeravaani), cinematography, production design, film editing, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, sound and visual effects.
As per a Variety report, President of Variance Films, Dylan Marchetti, opened up on their decision and said that SS Rajamouli's ‘RRR’ has brought joy to the global audience over the last six months. He added that the film has grossed over $140 million worldwide and has become one of India's highest grossing films of all times and the first film in history to trend globally on Netflix for over 14 weeks.
He concluded that he has heard fans from around the world stating that ‘RRR’ is one of the best films of the year from any nation and that is why he has proudly invited the Academy to consider the film in all categories.
‘RRR’, which is set in the 1920s when India was under the British rule, earned $14.5 million ( ₹115 crore) in the US and over ₹200 crore overseas.
