Rupali Ganguly, known for her roles in TV shows ‘Anupamaa’ and ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai,’ announced her foray into Indian politics on May 1. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of leaders Vinod Tawde and Anil Baluni.

Speaking to the media, the ‘Anupamaa’ star said, ‘I am so honoured to be here. PM Modi has influenced me a lot. I am a big fan of PM Modi. BJP has been doing great work and therefore i wanted to join the BJP. I am very thankful to the party.’

In March, Rupali had met PM Narendra Modi in Delhi. When asked about her sentiments regarding the encounter with the Prime Minister, the actor said, ‘Mere pair zameen par nahi tik rahe. Mahashivratri ke din, mahakal baba ne itna accha tohfah diya. Pradhan Mantri ko milne ka mauka diya, ye zindagi main nahi bhoolungi. (I'm on cloud nine. On the day of Mahashivratri, Mahakal Baba gave such a wonderful gift. He gave me the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister, which I will never forget in my life.)’

When PM Modi recently shared a 'vocal for local' ad campaign featuring Rupali on his social media page, she had called herself a 'huge Modi bhakt'. The actor said, ‘For me, my Prime Minister is the star, who has helped India reach a new level. Today, I can proudly say I am from Modi ji's country. He is my hero. When I got the chance to be a part of the cause of 'vocal for local', I was thrilled. Just to be associated with something that he believes in so deeply. Also, for him to share the video on his page, I think I just died that day (laughs).’

The actor added that it was 'surreal and unreal' for her, something she never expected to happen: ‘He shared it on his page, so he must have seen my face. And that's such a big thing for me. And I must thank my show Anupamaa for giving me this platform to reach greater heights. I still can't believe that it happened to me. Honestly, I sometimes go back to his page and see the video. It's really a big moment for me, and I will always be grateful for it.’
