The Television Academy announced the nominations for the 76th Emmys on July 17, featuring historic choices and several critically acclaimed names and titles long overdue for recognition.
Beloved FX series ‘The Bear’, set in a Chicago sandwich shop, leads the list along with the drama series Shōgun. ‘The Bear's 23 nominations broke the record of another iconic comedy show, ‘30 Rock’, which earned 22 nods at the 2009 Emmys.
In the drama category, ‘Shōgun’ led with 25 nominations. However, the record of 32 nominations, held by HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ since 2016, remains unbroken.
Some past favourites, including Succession and Ted Lasso, were not in contention this year, but ‘The Crown’, ‘The Morning Show’, and ‘Only Murders in the Building’ received multiple nominations.
Selena Gomez has made history as the most Emmy-nominated Latina producer in the ‘Best Comedy Series’ category for her role as executive producer on Hulu's ‘Only Murders in the Building’. Additionally, Gomez received her first acting Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Mabel.
Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale announced this year’s nominees. Ralph also earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her work on Abbott Elementary, a category she won in 2022.
The 76th Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 15 on ABC. For Indian fans, the awards will be streamed live on September 16 at 5:30 am (IST) on Lionsgate Play.
