Ukrainian singer Uma Shanti and one more person have been booked for allegedly disrespecting the Indian flag at an event in Pune.
The singer, who is the front woman of the musical band Shanti People, was holding the Indian flag during her performance at a restaurant cum bar in the Mundhwa area of the city on the eve of Independence Day and while waving it she suddenly flung it to the audience, a police official said.
'She and event organiser Kartik More have been booked under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Maharashtra Police Act,' he said.
Another police officer said the singer and the event organiser have been issued a notice, asking them to join the probe into the incident.
A video from Uma Sethi's live performance in Pune is going viral on the internet.
The Ukrainian band - Shanti People - which was on India tour, had already performed in Bengaluru and Bhopal . The performance on August 14 was band's second in the city of Pune after one in October 2022.
