Production for 'Euphoria' season three is on hold as creator Sam Levinson revises scripts. Despite rumours, the season is still in development, allowing the cast, including Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney, to pursue other projects.
As per Variety, the makers in a statement said, ‘HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.’
Filming for Season 3 of 'Euphoria' was anticipated to commence in the coming months, but no firm start date was confirmed. HBO announced in November 2023 that Season 3 was set to premiere in 2025, marking a three-year gap since Season 2 debuted in January 2022. The show features stars like Zendaya, Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Colman Domingo, who received an Oscar nomination, along with Storm Reid, an Emmy winner for The Last Of Us.
Zendaya has won two Emmys for her portrayal of Rue in the series. Notably, between Seasons 2 and 3, the Euphoria family experienced losses with the deaths of star Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.
Set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, the series follows characters navigating the complexities of love, loss, and addiction. Euphoria is based on an Israeli show of the same name created by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin.
In a January interview with Jimmy Fallon, Jacob Elordi humorously remarked that Season 3 of ‘Euphoria’ would have to take place in the future to avoid seeming odd. He joked about the possibility of needing to be ‘Benjamin Buttoned’ due to the time gap.
‘Euphoria’ also features Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Nika King, Storm Reid, Colman Domingo, and Austin Abrams.
While praised for performances, particularly Zendaya's, Euphoria has faced criticism for its depiction of drug use and sexual content.
