After winning an International Emmy Award for ‘Delhi Crime’, director Richie Mehta has shifted his focus to the jungles of Kerala. His upcoming series, ‘Poacher,’ delves into the elephant poaching racket in the state. Actor Alia Bhatt is also involved as a co-producer for the project.

Alia took to her Instagram handle to unveil the trailer of ‘Poacher’. She called it ‘a story of one of the biggest crime rackets in India’.

The trailer opens in a Kerala forest, showing an elephant targeted by a poaching gang. It then shifts indoors, where investigators discuss the resurgence of the poaching racket in Kerala, which had been quiet since the 1990s.

Led by Dibyendu Bhattacharya, the investigative team, including Nimisha Sajayan, embarks on a mission to dismantle perhaps India's largest crime syndicate, valued at an astronomical ₹1 crore crore. The racket extends beyond Indian jungles, spanning the globe. Additionally, Alia's ‘Darlings’ co-star Roshan Mathew also features in the series.

Earlier this week, Alia posted a video on her Instagram, showing her in a jungle. Carrying a bag and dressed casually, her voice narrated about elephant murders in the jungle. Alia appeared shocked upon discovering a loaded rifle, spent bullet casings, and the silhouette of a lifeless body.

Documenting her experience while shooting for the awareness video, Alia wrote, ‘I spent less than a day in the jungle to shoot this awareness video, but it still gave me chills. Murder is Murder...and I can't wait for you to see the full story through the eyes of #RichieMehta and our stellar cast @nimisha_sajayan @roshan.matthew @dibyenduofficial.’

‘Poacher’ is an investigative crime series based on true events, delving into the issue of ivory poaching in India. It is executive produced by QC Entertainment's Edward H. Hamm Jr., Raymond Mansfield, and Sean McKittrick, in association with Suitable Pictures, Poor Man's Productions, and Alia's Eternal Sunshine Productions.

The series is set to premiere on Prime Video India on February 23.
