The second teaser for the web series ‘Dune: Prophecy’ was released on July 18. The 1-minute-10-second teaser of the HBO original, which expands on the ‘Dune’ films, offered a tantalizing glimpse of the acclaimed actor Tabu as Sister Francesca reigniting excitement.
She is dressed in black, with a cape on her back, standing with her arms folded and staring directly into the camera. Although her character has no dialogue in the teaser, her costume exudes a sense of power. It remains to be seen if future promotional materials will reveal more about her role in the ongoing power struggle within the Imperium.
In May, a Variety report described Tabu’s character as ‘strong, intelligent, and alluring.’
The new teaser opens with a voiceover from senior Sisters instructing newcomers on the necessity of mastering self-control before attempting to influence the Great Houses. They stress the importance of their influence and warn that with increased power come more enemies. As the Queen warns the emperor about the sisterhood’s growing strength, the Bene Gesserit remain steadfast in their mission to solidify their hold on power. Valya declares, ‘Sacrifices must be made’ to protect the Imperium.
Tabu makes a blink-and-miss appearance in the teaser as Sister Francesca, once a great love of the Emperor.
‘Dune: Prophecy,’ set 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides, delves into the deep origins of Frank Herbert’s universe. The series centres on the Harkonnen sisters, Valya and Tula, portrayed by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. These formidable women are determined to safeguard humanity and establish the Bene Gesserit, a powerful all-female order known for their extraordinary abilities.
The series is inspired by the novel ‘Sisterhood of Dune’ written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. In addition to Tabu, Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, the series also stars Jodhi May, Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Mark Strong, Chloe Lea, Josh Heuston, Jade Anouka, Edward Davis, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, Shalom Brune-Franklin, and Chris Mason.
The teaser reveals that the series will begin streaming in November.
