The exit polls were released on Thursday after the polling for the eighth phase of West Bengal elections concluded.

While some exit polls predicted a return to power for Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress for a third consecutive term in West Bengal, other professed a saffron win in the hotly contested polls.

In Assam all exit polls predicted that the BJP will come to power again, but will not be able to repeat its 2016 performance. The Congress alliance is expected to win between 45-50 seats in the Assembly.

The DMK is predicted to come to power in Tamil Nadu, according to a poll of exit polls. MK Stalin's DMK and allies are forecast to win at least 170 seats.

Exit poll results from Kerala appeared to give the edge to the ruling Left Democratic Front coalition while the Congress-led United Democratic Front seemed to come in second. The BJP was seen winning a couple of seats as well.

In Puducherry most exit polls predicted a NDA victory.
