While many may never have heard of the practice, designer fashion brands have been charging you extra money for clothes that are above a certain sample size range.

The practice dubbed 'fat tax' can be defined as the difference in amount between ‘plus-sized’ and so-called ‘regular-sized’ clothing.

Popular Instagram page Diet Sabya started the conversation about this tax with many people confessing their own experience of paying it while shopping for designer clothing. It can go as high as Rs. 60,000 extra for an XXL garment.

Following the outrage on social media, some brands including Gauri & Nainika have now announced that they will do away with 'fat tax' for good.
