The number of active Covid-19 cases in India crossed the 5,000 mark after 109 days, as per government data released on 17 March 2023.
In the preceding 24 hours, India recorded 796 new Covid infections and 5 deaths.
The national Covid recovery rate stands at 98.80%, and 220.64 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far.
The rise in Covid cases comes amid increasing instances of H3N2 influenza virus infections in the country.
