As technology develops, the world shrinks. Making that statement true, while also making history, a commercial Airbus plane an A340, successfully landed in Antarctica.

The A340, operated by Hi Fly, took off from Cape Town, South Africa before flying 4,630 km to Antarctica, achieving an aviation first by successfully landing on a runway made of blue glacial ice.

Special accommodations were made to help the flight, like the runway had to have special grooves carved into it to allow for more friction and pilots also had to wear special eye gear due to the glare coming off the polar ice.
