Former Attorney General of India Soli Sorabjee passes away, PM condoles death

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice NV Ramana and several Union ministers on Friday condoled the death of former attorney general Soli Sorabjee, who died in a private hospital in Delhi after contracting coronavirus. 'He will be remembered for his noteworthy tenures India’s Attorney General', PM Modi wote in his tweet.

Sorabjee commenced his legal practice in 1953 in Bombay High Court. He became the attorney general of India first from 1989-90 and then from 1998-2004.

Sorabjee was awarded Padma Vibhushan in March 2002 for his efforts toward defending freedom of expression and the protection of human rights.
