Former Turkish prime minister Mesut Yilmaz died on Friday in an Istanbul hospital. In May, the 72-year-old has undergone an operation to remove a tumor in his brain stem and in 2019 he had received treatment for lung cancer.
Yilmaz, was a veteran politician who served as prime minister three times during a vociferous political era in Turkey. Two of those premierships lasted only months because of the fall of his coalition governments. He has also held the posts of foreign minister and culture minister of Turkey.
