Tensions high in areas south of Pangong Tso. Beginning September, Indian troops occupied the ridgeline south of Pangong Tso Lake, heights in Chushul Sector, the Kailash Range & beyond covering the Spanggur Gap. Recent inputs indicate that China's total deployment is approximately 52,000 with about 10,000 troops on the southern side of the Pangong Tso. Despite the Defence Ministers of India and China having bilateral discussions, China shows no inclination for easing tensions and withdrawing. China also abducted 5 youth from Upper Subansiri District of Arunachal Pradesh and returned them only after India raised the issue officially. China now claims entire Galwan Valley. The Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) has increased deployments opposite Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, 3 areas in Arunachal Pradesh & opposite Bhutan. India has not yet crossed the LAC & undertaken no quid pro quo. Logistics problems to maintain troops in Ladakh will increase once the Manali-Leh road closes for winter.
