Just weeks after a prolonged and bloody conflict, Assam and Mizoram are at loggerheads once again. This time over a bridge in a border area. Assam has accused Mizoram of constructing a bridge in its territory and Mizroam has hit back with a case against Assam Police for allegedly stealing construction material.
The police case was withdrawn on Sunday, the Hindustan Times has reported.
Assam officials alleged that Mizoram officials entered the state’s Hailakandi district and started constructing the bridge ar Kachurthal in Ramnathpur police station area.
Mizoram officials, however, said that the bridge was being constructed on its side at Zophai near Bairabi town and accused the Assam police of stealing the construction material.
Just weeks ago the two governments announced a road map for peaceful negotiations following a violent showdown last month.
On July 26, six Assam policemen were killed and about 40 others injured in violent clashes with Mizoram police.
