In one of the longest encounters in the history of Gadchiroli, security forces gunned down at 26 Maoists in the dense forests of the Maharashtra district.
Reports said the fierce encounter ensued at around 6pm and ended at 4pm with police saying C-60 commandos of the Gadchiroli police carried out the operation.
Four policemen were also injured in the encounter and were taken to Nagpur for treatment.

While police claim that around 100 elite C-60 commandos of the Gadchiroli police carried out the operation, sources based media reports said that there were 16 parties of the C-60 commandos with a total strength of over 500.
